Brown-gray hardstone axe god figure having deeply grooved neck surmounted by the stylized head having heavy brow line and small, circular mouth. The squared body is belted at the waist by a deeply incised line and two differentiated, peg legs support the carving. Traces of ocher and black paint. Several chips, especially on chin, left breast and reverse. Roughness at the top of the head, else intact. Old custom mount. Provenance: Private west coast collection. Ex. old San Diego Collection, acquired late 1950’s to 1960’s from Stendahl Galleries, L.A., Ca.
