Beautiful maya bowl. The interior of this vessel shows coloured turkeys, a staple of mayan diet. In their red beaks, they carry something, maybe a worm. The exterior part shows a frieze of human figures. They are seated in profile. Those men, perhaps priests, are wearing a impressive "couvre-chef", projecting far behind thier heads and rising over their faces like an antenna. They are wearing complex clothes, with a big belt on their back. Their hands, oversized, are placed in order to present an offering, as if they were worshipers. Finding inside tombs, this type of ceramic is used as a funeral gift.
